Guest KmanfromwestlanD Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I have a client with a Proliant ML 330, Raid 1 two drives only and no possibility of more than 2 drives period. They are out of disk space or will be shortly. I have removed as much as possible. Currently, they have two drives each is 34.6 Gigs. I have ordered two 147 Gig drives. I have been told by an HP tech that I can do the followings. 1. take down the server and break the mirror by removing one drive. 2. change the jumper on the new drive to match the setting on the old dirve I removed. 3. install the new 147 Gig drive and bring the server back up. 4. let the server rebuild. 5. Check the Array Controller Utility to see that the process is complete and note that physical view of both drives will indicate that they are 34.6 in size 6. bring the server down and repeat steps 2, 3, 4 and 5. 7. now use the ACU to create a logical volumn and create a 100 gig drive,,.... or something like that. 8. now move the "data" files and folders to the new 100 gig portion of the mirror. All of which will result in a Raid 1 mirror with a ~40 gig drive with the system / OS will reside and ~100 gig drive where my data will be stored. Question is this a workable plan? Question is there a better way? Question is there a safer way? Question if i just pulled the two drives matched the jumpers installed the two new drives used the SMART Start CD to create my array, and then did a restore what wouldn't I be just as good? I hope I have covered everything. Please feel free to comment FREELY. I am open to suggestions and thoughtful feed back. Kevin
