temporarily disable all but administrator login

I would like a way to disable logins, but not as at a regular time, nor on a

per user basis.

When running updates or other system intensive maintenance, it would be nice

to have a message explaining why users are not currently allowed to login.

We have remote workers, who do not fit into a regular lock out scenario (do

work when you have it and can do it, not because it is "time"), and I am

looking for a way to alert them on a login attempt that there is maintenance

underway.

Scheduled maintenance is a beautiful thing, but there are situations that

are more efficiently handled without a consensus. On such an occasion, I

can of course lock out each user, but that is laborious and does not give

them an explanation...I could create a group policy and add my users to it

when necessary...but do not know how do accomplish my desire with such a

policy.

Any ideas, or am I just going to have to field calls at 1am as to why

someone's login is disabled?

Thanks in advance for the input-

Stuart

You could modify your logon script: First you explain in

a dialog box what's going on, then you use shutdown.exe

to log the user off.
