Guest Helpless Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Since I upgraded Home Edition to XP Pro I am having way too many problems. Can I reverse that installation and go back to what I had before? I tried System Restore and it did not work.

The normal way to "uninstall" any operating system is to format the hard drive and install a new OS of your choice. Only if you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, can you then boot into Safe Mode and click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions must be met for the uninstall option to be available. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell

Guest Paul Randall Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Re: Can I reverse an XP upgrade? Hi, Jerry Think about it. There are many different newsgroup readers. There are many different ways to sort and display postings. What is 'down two' to you might be 'up ten' to me. Sometimes you have to repeat yourself so that everyone is 'on the same page' so to speak. Post it here in this thread again. -Paul Randall "Jerry" <ChiefZekeNoSpam@MSN.com> wrote in message news:uS9ys8Z7HHA.1444@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Look 'down' two postings. > > "Pegasus (MVP)" <I.can@fly.com> wrote in message > news:O3tDJ8X7HHA.5980@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> Sorry, I do not understand "If you go down two more to the task >> bar" - please rephrase. >> >> >> "Helpless" <Helpless@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:6F00AF02-8C91-4BD1-A48A-0955D5EA6C13@microsoft.com... >>> If you go down two more to the Task Bar afterupgrading, you will see >>> two, >>> plus many others >>> >>> "Pegasus (MVP)" wrote: >>> >>>> >>>> "Helpless" <Helpless@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >>>> news:581EF23B-29BD-4F34-9A7D-7CF8FB64EFFC@microsoft.com... >>>> > Since I upgraded Home Edition to XP Pro I am having way too many >>>> > problems. >>>> > Can I reverse that installation and go back to what I had before? Guest Helpless Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Re: Can I reverse an XP upgrade? OK, got it. Two problems posted (among many others) two postings below this one with the title "task bar after upgrading: 1. I upgraded Home Edition to XP Professional. Then upgraded Office to 2003 and unless I use the language bar, the task bar goes away and cannot retrieve. 2. If I use the language bar, the taskbar shows up but programs cannot be minimized, they just close. In other words, open files cannot be minimized. they ALL have to be kept open in order to navigate through them. The files Elmo sent from Kelly Theriot's site did not work either. Probably have to wipe the drive and do a clean install. -- Top 10 Conservative Idiots: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/top10

Guest Helpless Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: Can I reverse an XP upgrade? I will. Why did you upgrade in the first place? What benefits did you expect to get from Professional that Home didn't provide? -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup
