Guest KF Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I want to give my old computer away. It is an HP I got from Costco years back. I want to wipe the system before I do that. I have Wipe Drive and it says it will delete the operating system. How can I reinstall XP once this is done. I have looked for a Windows XP disk or something like that but there was no disk that came with the system. Any suggestions. I really appreciate it. KF

Just do the wipe anyway. Let whoever you give the PC to deal with it. I would think charities and most individuals would have a Win 98 cd sitting around. -- Top 10 Conservative Idiots: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/top10
Guest Script Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 RE: Uninstall and Reinstall Windows XP On some HP's, you can push F10 key at boot to start the recovery program on the HIDDEN partition. Guest Script Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 RE: Uninstall and Reinstall Windows XP That is to say- Don't wipe; you'll wipe the recovery partition, too. This HP program is a destructive recovery and will destroy all previous data as it reinstalls the computer to "Day One" condition. [Not Dept. of Defense clean, but fine for average citizen.] "Wipe" and reinstall both accomplished at once. You need an OS CD to reinstall the OS. 2. http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316941 -- http://www.bootdisk.com/
