Guest Kevin Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 hi. I have a problem with the speed of my internet. I have 2 computers and a cable modem connected to a router(Netgear WGR614 v7 54Mbps wireless router). problem: when 2 computers are using internet(connected to a router) at the same time it's really slow, when one computer is using an internet(when other ones off) still connected to the router, it's also slow but bit faster, If I connect the modem directly to one computer it's super fast. I recently changed the company from AT&T to Time warner cable because I heard that cable is faster than DSL so I thought it might be fast also on 2 computers, but it isnt. Does anyone who experienced this and have solved this once before have recommendation which better router to buy or how to fix this problem other than ordering for another cable internet?
Guest Andrew E. Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 RE: slow internet connections with 2 computers. Time warner is at least as fast or faster than charter, charter basic runs at 3 megs (512mbps up 800 ish down),optional 5 & 10 meg.If youre wireless specs you listed (54mbps) is factory listing, then that router would be for a dial-up ISP,not for cable,or if used with cable youre mbps will be about dial-up specs. Deep six the router.... "Kevin" wrote: > hi. I have a problem with the speed of my internet. Guest Paul Randall Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: slow internet connections with 2 computers. Slow and slower and fast and faster are terms that are easily misunderstood. Maybe you should set up some tests so you can post real transfer speeds. For example, Microsoft has a lot of free downloads of very large files on fast internet connections. Using one computer at a time, you could start downloading one of these files. You can cancel the download when the speed stabalizes. Or maybe you watch the speed for a while so that you get a feel of how the speed varies up and down over time. Do the same with the other computer. Do it again with both computers at the same time. Write down your numbers and post them. You should also post which computer is hard wired and which one is wifi. You might also want a windows task manager window open to performance monitor tab and note the CPU usage and how it changes during file transfer. One URL for large downloads (iso image files) is http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/future/bb421473.aspx, in the Offline Install section. -Paul Randall "Kevin" <Kevin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:FF40B6B4-FEB0-404F-8216-5080F3112196@microsoft.com... > hi. Guest Script Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 RE: slow internet connections with 2 computers. Turn of computers; push "Reset" button on back (or maybe front in your case) of router. Hold it in 15 sconds (it may require an inkpen or paperclip to push it). Reboot computers one at a time. "Kevin" wrote: > hi. I have a problem with the speed of my internet.
