Guest kim Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Hello again, I can`t get into safe mode via F8 on bootup,I`ve lost count of the amount of times i`ve tried.I hold down F8 or constantly tap F8 the moment I power up the computer which takes me to "please select boot device" screen with the options of dvd-rom, dvd-rw and hdd. The it says "press Enter to select boot device or Esc to boot defaults" all of which boot into windows and not into safe mode. What do I do in the future if for some reason it wont boot normally and I need to boot into safe mode. (I can get into safe mode via msconfig but that no good if the computer wont boot into windows) Any Ideas? Regards Kim
Guest N1K Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 RE: Can`t boot into safe mode Can you enable to boot only from HDD in BIOS, so you won't be asked what to select. -- MCSA, MCDST, MCP Systems Specialist http://www.wincert.net "kim" wrote: > Hello again, I can`t get into safe mode via F8 on bootup,I`ve lost count of > the amount of times i`ve tried.I hold down F8 or constantly tap F8 the > moment I power up the computer which takes me to "please select boot device" > screen with the options of dvd-rom, dvd-rw and hdd. Guest Nightowl Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: Can`t boot into safe mode Hi Kim After choosing your hard disk and pressing Enter, immediately start tapping F8 again and you should get the Advanced Options menu where you can choose Safe Mode. This works for me on a friend's PC which is set up similarly to yours. kim <faked@ntlhell.com> wrote on Mon, 3 Sep 2007: >Hello again, I can`t get into safe mode via F8 on bootup,I`ve lost count of >the amount of times i`ve tried.I hold down F8 or constantly tap F8 the >moment I power up the computer which takes me to "please select boot device" >screen with the options of dvd-rom, dvd-rw and hdd. But try F5 during boot and see if that works; it may bypass your BIOS' option to select a Boot Device. -- Joe =o)
Guest N1K Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 RE: Can`t boot into safe mode Also, if you're using Microsoft keyboard, be sure that you've enable FLock before hitting F8 ;) -- MCSA, MCDST, MCP Systems Specialist http://www.wincert.net "kim" wrote: > Hello again, I can`t get into safe mode via F8 on bootup,I`ve lost count of > the amount of times i`ve tried.I hold down F8 or constantly tap F8 the > moment I power up the computer which takes me to "please select boot device" > screen with the options of dvd-rom, dvd-rw and hdd. Guest kim Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: Can`t boot into safe mode Big thanks to you all,"After choosing your hard disk and pressing Enter, immediately start tapping F8 again" worked first time. Why didn`t the so called "support team" from where I bought the thing from tell me this after about 8 emails back and forth. Thanks again Kim "N1K" <N1K@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:FC4A7FA0-1962-4F3F-B196-3323452EE686@microsoft.com... > Also, if you're using Microsoft keyboard, be sure that you've enable FLock > before hitting F8 ;) > -- > MCSA, MCDST, MCP > Systems Specialist > http://www.wincert.net > > > "kim" wrote: > >> Hello again, I can`t get into safe mode via F8 on bootup,I`ve lost count >> of >> the amount of times i`ve tried.I hold down F8 or constantly tap F8 the >> moment I power up the computer which takes me to "please select boot >> device" >> screen with the options of dvd-rom, dvd-rw and hdd. Guest Ritter197 Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Re: Can`t boot into safe mode The IMMEDIATE tapping of F8 does not work for me. I have to let the Post happen first and then, just before Windows XP starts, THEN I hold down or tap the F8 key and Safe mode does come on. I tried it a number of times before I wrote this.
