If that's what came with your machine, then contact your vendor on how to use it......you /should/ just boot from the CD and it /should/ just do it's own thing....
Guest DL Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: need windowsxp home edition after MB replacement Perhaps your image, from the PC supplier?, is bios locked to the origonal hardware You cannot download a copy, if your PC vendor wont help, your are left trying to source an OEM copy of winxp "elrodd" <elrodd@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:37379152-7CC8-4F6F-82D2-3E391752A6B2@microsoft.com... > all i have is an image of windowsxp home edition. apparently image > looking > for specific vendor or config setup. i have a product key but do not have > a > stand alone copy of windowsxp home edition. i don't think i should have > to > buy an entire new disk. how do i find or download a copy?

Not unusual; that's an extra step many OEMs take to combat piracy. > i have a product key but do not have a > stand alone copy of windowsxp home edition. i don't think i should have to > buy an entire new disk. You've very little choice, unless you obtained the replacement motherboard from the PC's original manufacturer. You might be able to find and use an unbranded, generic OEM installation CD that will work with your Product Key. If not, you'll have to purchase a new license. > how do i find or download a copy? Unless you have a very expensive MSDN subscription (in which case you wouldn't be asking this question), there are no *legitimate* sources from which one can download a Microsoft operating system. You'd be wise to avoid illicit sources, as you're likely to get more (in the terms of malware and/or mysterious credit card charges) than you bargained for. You need to contact the computer's manufacturer. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell
