First off, thanks to everyone who gave me advice on getting my CD-Burner to work, esp. Seth :D I was hoping a brand new drive would solve the following problem: Whenever I copy files to a CD, 1 file or 100 files, after it's done copying, the screen goes black, then the B.S.O.D. with a ton of writing on it, something about a hardware prob? Dump of physical memory. I've got 4 Gb of RAM and a 1 Gb video board. Also, the fan speed goes waaaaay up and the pc has to be unplugged to shut it off. Any ideas?

Roxio

Try a different burning program and see if the problem persists:

CDBurnerXP: Introduction and News

Roxio is my default burning program, it won't let me copy files unless the CD has been formatted. Problem is copying files to the CD, I've done it a zillion times B4 (I have backups of backups). I do however have a copy of Nero 8 which came with the CD drive, think I should try that? Also, I've tried copying files in Safe Mode Command Prompt only - Same Prob.

I'll check out the site you listed. Do you think I should un-install Roxio DLA?

Thanks for the information Steve. Please read the following article and try the solutions suggested. See if they help or not.

Stop error message in Windows XP with Service Pack 2: "STOP 0x0000001a: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" or "STOP 0x0000000a: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

Let us know how it goes. Good Luck.

Thanks Goku for the info, I tried to install either update, but because I'm runninng SP3 (From Micro$oft) it won't let me install the patches. :(

Says I don't need them or they're already installed.Any other ideas?

Then, I think it is the CD drive. A good way to test it would be to use another CD burning program like Nero or CDBurnerXP, as Seth has already suggested. If you still receive the error, then it is most likely a faulty CD drive.

Please install Nero using the discs you have and try burning the files with it. Do you still get the error?

I've tried 2 CD drives, the original one, and a brand new one. If I install Nero or CDBurnerXP, should I un-install Roxio (Sonic); it always wants to format a disk B4 using. I'let you know when I get one or the other installed.

As far as I know, a disc cannot be formatted; erased yes but not formatted. Do you mean that it always asks you to format the disc before burning anything on it? In that case is the CD a CD-RW one?

As for your second question, yes you must uninstall the other CD burning program so that they might not cause any conflicts during the process. Hope that helps. :)

Roxio always wants to format a disc, whether it's a CD-R/W, or a CD-R. A big pain. Think I'll uninstall it.

A total loss

I lost the whole CD Burner setup; I installed Nero8, which froze the screen twice in a row; I un-installed that -wouldn't even start. I then installed CDBurner XP, that made all my CD's Read only; 1/2 of Roxio is gone (uninstalled- I need some parts of it for my DVD player.Plus, CDBurner XP locked up the mouse and kybd, I must have had to unplug the PC 20 times. Anywhere I can get a freeware copy of Sonic Roxio? Major Geeks.com maybe.

Other options:

1) Try to burn using only one stick of ram.

2) While burning, open task manager>processes. See what process uses a lot of the cpu that causes the fan to spin very fast.

3) After you get the error, go into Event Viewer and look for any errors in the Application and System tab that correspond to the time when the error occurred.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'burning a CD', I'm just trying to copy some files to a CD for backup, right now I decided to use my 250 Gb ext. HDD for backup. PC still crashes after trying to copy files to CD, plus one of the other 2 CD burn programs thinks all my CD's are read only.

It's also difficult to get to the RAM chips 10 or so times a session (I have 4 Gb) Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback,

CD Burner still crashing computer after copying files to it

Does anyone have any ideas about why my CD Burner crashes the PC after writing files to a CD. I get a black screen, then the BSOD with the error: ox804fb02c, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL The Cd Burner is brand new, the 2nd one I've had in there. Any ideas? I'm desparate :(

Putting files on an optical disk is not like simply transferring files to a hard drive Test.

The files have to be burned into the disk, you are aware of this yes?

Issue Resolved?

I contacted Dell Tech Support online and they re-installed a Device Driver -- fltmgr.sys which seemed to clear up the prob. We also tested the CD burning while copying files to it, using Windows Burn Utility or something like that, that I didn't know about. No need to format CD's like Roxio likes to do. I also removed 2 of the 4 GB of RAM. Seems to run ok now, maybe a little slow for my choice but it's 2 years old. All seems quiet now. Thanks guys. :-)
