gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Hi I have a pc running XP Pro and it has two users. It has a 60g hard drive. I have a prblem with Nero reporting insufficient disc space to burn a dvd so I checked c: properties to see it is reporting the disc as 30g. Does it allocate a percentage to each user or have I lost something somewhere. Also when I close it down it gives the message that another user is logged on and will lose data when there is no one else logged on? Help:confused::confused: GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Hello Gunslinger Welcome to FPCH Nero is reporting that you do not have enough space on the dvd disk that you are trying to burn not your hard drive. Quote
gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Yes that bit I know. I have checked the properties of my hard drive C: and it does not have enough disk space ,but the reason for this seems to be that it is reporting the total drive space ie. used and unused as 30 gig and its a sixty gig hard drive. So the question is where has my other 30 gig gone??? Nero was just the problem that led me to this discovery as it uses a temporary file prior to burning to the dvd. GS Quote
RandyL Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Have you looked in disk management to see what it is reporting? Right-click on My Computer and choose Manage Under the heading Storage click Disk Management Post back what it says there. Quote We are all members helping other members. Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Do you know how to post a Screen Shot? If you do then post one of what it says in Disk Management as what you have written is a tad confusing, this is an example of mine a while ago. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/26463-post10.html If you do not know how to make a screen shot look here. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/articles-and-tutorials/1328-screen-shot-and-do-make-one.html Save the shot as .jpeg or .png and upload the file via Manage Attachments when replying. gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Took me a bit to figure out how to do this so I hope it comes out ok. GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Ok that's better Gun, ok simply right click on the unallocated space and in the box that pops up click Format. You are also gonna have to shift the burning program folder to that new partition once done and you seriously need to think about reformatting the whole drive back to one full partition. Consider obtaining an extra hard drive also Quote

Consider obtaining an extra hard drive also Tried that and right click on unallocated does not give me the option to format. And I cant see anything else that even allows me to see this part of the drive. I would prefer not to have to format everything and start over if poss. I take it that it is impossible to remove the partition without formatting the lot? GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 That's impossible Gun, did you make sure the mouse pointer was hovered over the striped section of that unallocated drive? I have done this hundreds of times and there should be no reason whatsoever for not allowing you to format that drive. Quote
gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 The only options it gives me when I click on that part are. New partition Properties Help Thats it ,no mention of format at all GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Ok click new partition and make it the maximum size and then it will ask if you want to format it. Quote
Seth Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 That space needs to be made into an active partition before you can format. Right click on the unallocated space and choose "New Partition". Edit: Nevermind. The last two posts were made while I was making this one. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Thanks wolfey its formatting now and I will set up a temp folder for nero in the new drive I have allocated as F drive. Hopefully that has solved my problem for now. Just one other you may know the answer to. I have recently formatted the kids pc and the page is too wide for the screen. I have tried the monitor controls and they are all set to the minimum size so the problem is I think in the pc . Do you know how I can resolve this. Sorry to ask so many questions GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 You need to reinstall the graphics driver for that PC Gun. What is the make and model of the kids box? Quote
gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Non descript cheapo so what do I need to find out? GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Unless it's a handmade unit it will be branded,eg Dell, Compaq etc. Quote
gunslinger Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 No Nothing at all some I am guessing its either home built or more likely chucked together by a local PC shop. GS Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Ok I'll take a wild guess and say your graphics are on board rather than a card, would I be correct? On board is the blue connector at the very bottom left of this picture in the link below. The 2 slots to the right that are covered are where a graphics card would go, which is yours? http://img.hexus.net/v2/sff/shuttle/sn41g2/ss51Back.jpg Quote
