I've searched the site and can't find anything about whether it installs

"over the top" or if one has to uninstall 1.4. Anyone know?

- Do I need to uninstall version 1.4 before installing 1.5?

Uninstalling old versions is not strictly necessary, since the update will

replace all important files. Only if you do not like to end up with two

entries in the Uninstall list, you should uninstall any older version.

So it's a YES, uninstall old version.

Hey Zee,

Well, no problems with the new version of Spybot here (working on XP

and Vista). However, I did the 'over install' and, like you said, ended up

with two entries in the Uninstall app. Is my only choice to perform an

uninstall on each and reinstall to correct the dual entry?? I may have a

peek in the Reg to see if I can find the extra entry.....can this be

resolved with a Reg tweak??

Heirloom, old and dual entries bug me

Re: New Version of Spybot.

Hi,

Have you tried uninstalling the older version in Add/Remove Programs?

Not sure if this will cleanup the entry but worth trying.

There are registry cleaners that can take care of that, but I wonder if you

want to go down that route.

Re: New Version of Spybot.

Very reluctant on the Regedit at this point. I have found the entry in the

Reg and it relates to ver 1.4, no mention of 1.5!

Also, in the Spybot folder, there are two each of the <unins000.dat and

unins000.exe> files, two are dated from the install of v1.4 and the other

two from the date of the 1.5 install.

I may just try to uninstall from Add or Remove on both entries and reinstall

the app.....probably the safest thing to do. I figure if the app is already

uninstalled the second uninstall entry will time out and maybe just go

away??

Heirloom, old and this is new to me

Re: New Version of Spybot.

Heirloom,

I believe that if you double-click the old Add/Remove Programs entry it will

try to uninstall and failing it will ask if you want to delete that entry.

Worth trying.

Regarding registry "cleaners" I also do not recommend them.

Just visited the forum and it is recommended to uninstall the old version,

before installing the latest, in case of any doubt. <H>.

Re: New Version of Spybot.

Well, this was much easier than I thought.....I simply used jv16 Power Tools

and removed the extra entry for the v1.4 from the Add/Remove Programs list.

Worked like a champ. I went ahead with some manual cleaning while I was

there, all is well.

Re: New Version of Spybot.

That's all well and good, Heirloom, but you also lost any settings you did

establish in the 1.4 version, including backups or log files.

When I started to remove the older version, I was made aware of tose facts

and therefore I installed the newer version 1.5 aside of its predecessor

with no ill side effects. In Add/Remove ver.1.4 is still there and ver.1.5

is listed as only Spybot -Search & Destroy, without 1.5, but that's no

problem. Everything else works 'lovely', including the improved and now

flawless immunization process.

"There may be bugs on some of the mugs, but there ain't no bugs on me",

(on Spybot - S&D) <vbg>.

If you have personal settings in ver1.4 to consider, install version 1.5

beside it to save them, otherwise you can uninstall before installing the

latest. <H>.

Re: New Version of Spybot.

Hate to burst your bubble, Harry, but, all of my settings were intact. I

installed v1.5 over v1.4, the only problem was the dual entry in the

Add/Remove of CP. I would think that removing v1.4 first is what would

result in the loss of settings, logs and backups.

So, if I understand you correctly, you still have both versions on your

machine??.....and two entries in the Add/Remove??

I think I will stick with the single v1.5 and one entry in the Add/Remove.

Not my "bubble", H, exactly Spybot's suggestions when trying to uninstall

installing 1.5 and removed all traces of it, if I understand correctly, how

could your settings be preserved???

Please read the second sentence of my last post.......I installed 1.5 OVER

1.4, hence, the dual entries in Add/Remove.

And, you did not address my questions.....hmmmm.

Heirloom, old and apparently confused

Re: New Version of Spybot.

To all:

Be sure to immunize several times, it seems the immunization doesn't always

fully "stick".

I think it's Spyware Blaster related issue (as happened with older

versions), but not totally sure, yet.

Re: New Version of Spybot.

Thanks, Zee. You are absolutely correct.....as usual. I checked mine and

the 'cookies' immunization was lacking by 146.

Didn't notice that when I first immunized or it reverted back somehow.

Heirloom, old and so much for the 'improved and now flawless

immunization process.'

My 'immunization' process seemed to be 'revamped', Zee and is working

Actually I have 65929 as the total protection. I'm not sure why there

are those lists of permanent protection for IE 32 and 64 bit. Perhaps I

need a clarification here. I use FireFox.

Got it...

It's the HOSTS file.

I use my own and WinPatrol protects it, i.e., Spybot will state as

Unprotected.

Scroll down the immunization list and untick the entry for Windows > Global

(HOSTS).
