My Athenol PC with XP operating system became very slow and I decided to change confuguration with removing in start menu all rarely used program.

But after doing this, the PC left in diagnostic safe mode, and I can't bring it again in normal mode. The mouse stopped working and when I click F8 affter starting, configuration screen appeares and shows that the mode is normal, but Windows still started in diagnostic mode with unworking mouse.

I even can't use Restore option because the mouse doesn't work.

Maybe somebody could tell me, how this problem may be fixed.

Thank you

Is the keyboard working? If yes, then please perform the instructions below and see if they help or not.

1. Boot the computer.

2. After you see the desktop, press the Windows Logo Key + R combination.

3. This should bring you a Run window as shown below.

4. Type in msconfig in the Open: field and press Enter. This should bring up the System Configuration Utility as shown below.

5. By default, the windows should open with the General tab in view. Now, carefully press the up arrow key on your keyboard once.

6. This should bring up a faint dotted line around the Normal Startup - load all devices and drivers. If the line highlights some other option, then press the appropriate keys to highlight the specified option.

7. After you have highlighted the appropriate option, press the Tab key on your keyboard 5 times and it will highlight the Apply option. Press the spacebar key to "click" on the option.

8. Press the Enter key and affirm the following prompt.

The instructions might be a long winded so please try them patiently. See if you can boot into normal mode or not. Let us know how it goes though. Good Luck. :)

Dear Goku:

I carefully followed to your instruction, and now it looks like PC works in normal setting mode, but still:

-mouse doesn't work

-no wireless Internet connection

-the icons are still large like in safe mode

You'll need to go to your computers manufacturing site to download and install the drivers for your particular model of computer.

If you have problems doing it, please post back with the make and model of your computer.

There is some problem with computers manufacturing. Originally it was HP Pavilion PC with 256 MHz CPU and only 133 MB RAM. Then friend of mine changed the processor, installed additional RAM and additional harddrive. It was 4 years ago, and now I don't know exactly, who was manufactur.

This is what I found in My Computer:

Intel® Celeron® CPU 2.00 GHz 1.99 GHz, 480 MB of RAM

full name - my-3bb 771805d30

Workgroup MSHOME

Is there any ability to find site for installation needed drivers??

Thank you

Those hardware changes are irrelevant, as he didn't change the motherboard.

If you go to HP's site, you can download the needed drivers.

You need to find out what the MOBO (Motherboard) inside it is -

if your friend changed it then it will still be an HP board - run a program like Everest free edition and that will give you the MOBO serial.
