Server 2003 R2 Standard File sharing via internet

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am totally new with Windows Server, so I have basic knoledge. I currently

have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition. I have a firewall installed

(sonic wall). I have 5 users and email and everhting is working perfectly.

Now, I need to let each user have access to their files from outside the

network... I do not want to install a VPN (because of cost so far) but I

would need some other solution. Security is not a big concern, so is there

any web based solution ?

Thanks so much

Alex

You could use MetaFrame from Citrix.

Hi Alex,

There is no cost to a windows vpn, however this is really not a very good

solution to your described need (unless you have an ~100mbps internet line),

as it would be very slow for your users to access their folders, opening up

docs due to this slow speed could cause corruption and believe me you will

spend alot of administration time on this.

Really the best way to go for remote filesharing is as Net_admin suggested,

Citrix... or Windows Terminal Services which would cost you about $100 per

access license. The benefits to remote access in this way are for users near

realtime file access, security, and simple and centralized administration for

you.

Hi Coraleigh !

Thanks for your good answer and help.... MOre than "live" working on the

documents, I need my users just to hace access to them.. meaning,

downloading files when they need.

thanks
