Changing from Terminal Server Remote Admin to Application

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi, we have a 2003 server with sql2000 on it. Right now it is in Remote

Admin mode and we would like to change it to Application Mode. I understand

that I need to uninstall Access, the only user app on the server, and

reinstall, but what effect will it have on the sql server? Am I asking for

trouble here?

Thanks,

Tom

It's a matter of what your going to be doing with it and how many users

will be accessing it. SQL Server and terminal services do conflict with

each other because both can be memory hogs and overall resource hogs.

Re: Changing from Terminal Server Remote Admin to Application

Thank you for your reply. There are 4 sql db's, and no more than 25

connections. The server isn't heavily used, and this is all it will be doing.

But there is some growth planned for it in the next few years. Maybe 1-2 more

db's. We are a non-profit so we try to get the most out of what we have. My

concern is that if we change the mode to application mode, will that in

itself mess up the sql installation.

Thanks,

Tom

It won't do anything to the SQL installation but you are hurting

yourself if your expecting more growth. It would be best to invest in a

new server now for the planned growth versus having to move one or the

other role. Moving in the future will be much harder than starting

clean today.
