d drive missing on computer

i recently installed a new cd rewriter into my d drive,i am running windows xp home edition service pack 2 and my comp is a dell gx280 only to find out the cdrewriter wasnt compatible with my comp,took it out replaced it with another one i got from a friend but the d drive in my computer section isnt there and wont do anything i have looked it up under system and it says its working fine but wont play or do anything can you please help.

Do you not get any notifications when the OS starts?

it normally says that its trying to install drivers etc.

if not go to device manager and remove the driver for the CD-RW and restart the PC - windows should then find the drive and install the right driver

Is it under another network drive? also in add new hardware in the control panel can anything be done there? Also try looking on the website of the manufacturer of the cd Writer they may have a driver or some software as it might not be plug and play compatible
