Guest Rick Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I recently updated my wifes computer and installed IE 7.0 thinking she might like the simpler layout better. Well she hated it just like me. I uninstalled it per the instructions and had problems aftward. Every time I opened an IE brower or Outlook Express it would take forever. I tried re-installing IE 6.0 after removing it and it wouldn't install saying there was a newer version. Her e-mail was also not spell checking which I saw was the same download as IE 6.0. I did a system restore going back to before the updates and re-downloading all but IE 7. Now every time I open any Microsoft program ie: any Office 2007 program, Outlook Express or Internet explorer it pops up with the "Windows Installer, preparing to install. I can't get it to stop and if I click on cancel the program won't load. Please advise how I can fix this? I think it's the IE 6 install that keeps trying to install. -- In the quest for knowledge.

You can verify that using the Windows Event log. Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc Select the "Application" log Look for the recent entries with the source column containing "MsiInstaller" Double-click the entry for more details. It may show the product name for which the installation/repair took place ================================================ Sample entry ================================================ Event Type: Information Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 11729 Date: 4/13/2007 Time: 11:30:21 AM Description: Product: Windows Live Messenger -- Configuration failed. Guest Salty Aggie Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Re: WINDOWS INSTALLER PREPARING TO INSTALL POPS UP WHEN OPENING MS Re: WINDOWS INSTALLER PREPARING TO INSTALL POPS UP WHEN OPENING MS I have a very similar problem...I installed Office 2007 and encountered the blue screen error message. I cleared that and un-installed Office 2007 (with the Add/Remove Program utility) and then did a system restore back to before I installed Office 2007. Now anytime I start up ANY Microsfot program (IE 7, MS Works, etc.) I get the exact same message. Like Rick, if I Cancel, the system gets hung up, the Windows Installer box remains, and the program I tried to start up doesn't open. I then have to go into Task Manager to end the program as well as cancel the Window Installer. Ideas to fix?
