SP2 without R2?

Ok, this may be a very naive question,

....but under my Computer properties, it shows Windows 2003 Server with

Service Pack 2.

I don't see any mention of "R2"

Is that something completely different, or should I use the R2 Disk 2?

R2 is the version after 2003 server. It is not the same.

Re: SP2 without R2?

Thanks Brett,

Ok...so if I've got a small domain (2 servers, 80 clients), and I am

transitioning clients to Vista...is there something in R2 that is needed to

make this work better?

The reason I ask is that I've already added the Group Policy ADMX stuff for

Vista onto the servers, and have edited using GPMC.MSC from a Vista computer

on the domain...but I'm having trouble with group policies and roaming

profiles working properly...

1. Is there any reason to believe that installing R2 would help here

2. Do I need to re-install SP2 after upgrading to R2?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Re: SP2 without R2?

If I remember correctly R2 was 2003 with updates and fixes and

enhancements in some areas such as printer management and others. I

don't think going to R2 would help your problem but then I'm no expert.

I administer some Windows servers (mixed versions) and don't have an

AD (yet - it's coming). I would think Vista may be the issue here but

again, I've run Vista Ultimate at home some but we are not going to it.

Re: SP2 without R2?

Hi Hbear,

I'm looking at installing R2 on some of my servers to take advantage of the

Disk and file mgmt features. I've got SP2 on these servers and keep getting

prompted to uninstall SP2. Did u get around to installing R2 in your

environment and if so did so have to uninstall and reinstall SP2? Where there

any issues?
