problem with Remote Desktop after Cisco VPN install.

Hi,

I am a consultant and normally connect to clients servers using MS VPN and

remote desktop. However, I just installed Cisco VPN Client 5.0.01.0600 on my

Win XP Professional SP2 pc when a new client required the Cisco client.

Since installing the Cisco client, I get the error message 'The connection to

the remote computer was lost' when I try to use RDC to connect to servers

that I have always been able to connect to before (I am still using MS VPN

with them). The only server that I can connect to with Remote Desktop is

the new one for which I have used the Cisco client to establish VPN.

If anyone has an idea what might be causing my problem, please write! Thank

you very much!

Re: problem with Remote Desktop after Cisco VPN install.

Hi Michele,

Cisco VPN Client has its own policies that you can configure for remote

access. Since you are having a problem only after you installed Cisco's VPN

client, it might have something to do with their settings. I would suggest

contacting their helpdesk or support groups for a quick answer.

Thanks,

Munindra

Re: problem with Remote Desktop after Cisco VPN install.

some new information on this problem that could be helpful to others reading

this post:

I have now found that as long as I wait several minutes AFTER establishing

Microsoft VPN connection to try Remote Desktop, I AM ABLE to connect. The

secret seems to be to not try to connect too soon. I realize that this

doesn't explain what's going on and whether the change in behavior is due to

installing the CISCO client or some other factor. Anyway, at least I have a

workaround now.
