Bluebird Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I'm wondering why my upload speed is significantly closer to download speed than it's for everyone else. Quote
KenB Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 That looks amazing Bluebird Try running the test again - usually the upload is about 10% of the download. Plastic Nev Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Fluidata seems quite amazing, they are using slightly different technology by what they say here= http://www.fluidata.co.uk/ Most of what they say about their "Pure Fluid" is over the top of my head and knowledge but what I do understand tells me they can have an upload speed near to download. Jelly Bean Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Ive done a bit of checking on speeds. If I switch to Plusnet I could get upto 7mb. If I switch to Sky I will get the same speed as I have now with BT and that is just over 5mb. EE could only give me 2.9mb,they are the worst. However these are all "upto" speeds except BT. Plus net would give me "upto" 7mb.I have an old BT line and there for Plusnet would give me less speed than I am now getting with BT.Sky is the same. They will give me "upto" speeds but infact I could end up with less than 2mb speed if I switch over to them. We cannot get Virginmedia here so are limited. The best offer for speeds in my area is clearly BT.Plus BT have become unlimited.I can use WiFi hotspots with no limits.I have unlimited data usage and will not be charged for going over my allowance. Just because you go to a compare website and they give you options to switch to a cheapr tarriff when you look further into this as they are "UPTO" speeds you will NOT get the speeds quoted. You could end up with a quater of the quoted speed or less. I am sticking with BT thats for sure. Just remember speeds are ALL "UPT0" and you will NOT get the speeds you are being quoted. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Starbuck Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Just remember speeds are ALL "UPT0" and you will NOT get the speeds you are being quoted. When we decided to go with Talk Talk, they checked our line and said we would get an average speed of 6Mb. Min would be 3Mb and Max would be 9Mb. http://www.speedtest.net/result/2790659252.png and what do i end up with .... 11.44Mb... and that's unlimited downloads. That'll do nicely thank you. and i pay less than Sky or BT charge. :) Quote Member of:UNITE
Jelly Bean Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 BT is down to £13-00 per month for unlimited. If I had a better phone line I would get faster speeds.Talk Talk have a bad rep so no thanks. Does Talk Talk have unlimited connection all over the UK for WiFi hotrpots? With no data caps? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Starbuck Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 BT is down to £13-00 per month for unlimited. Does that include the phone line rental? I pay 14.99 line rental and 3.25 for the broadband.... also get free evenings and weekend calls. So for 18.24 i'm getting a good deal. Talk Talk have a bad rep so no thanks. Not in this area. Just about everyone i know here is on Talk Talk and everyone says how great they are. WiFi hotspots? They're rubbish. The ordinary O2 connection on my phone is quicker than the so called hotspots in this area. Would never entertain a laptop/Tablet so have no real need for any hotspots for them. Quote Member of:UNITE
KenB Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Talk Talk have a bad rep so no thanks. I'm with Talk Talk - no problems ..... been with them since they bought out Tiscali. BreatGritain Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 It doesn't really matter what ADSL provider you're with, essentially you're getting whatever your BT line can cope with. At my dads garage they can't get cable, but the nearest BT interchange is 300 yards away, getting download speeds of 18mb with plus net Rumour has it that BT have discovered a way to get 100mb downloads down a phone line without fibre, should be interesting for the future. Jelly Bean Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I have a BlackBerry PlayBook so does my child we also have BlackBerry phones. When Vodafone goes down as it usually does. All four items can still be online via BT hotspots or via our home hub.It makes no difference what network your mobile phone is on or your iPad etc I can still be online were ever I am .
