NVIDIA Fights Two Class Action Suits over GPU Failures

 

NVIDIA's problems only started with the $200 million one-time charge.

 

In July 2008, NVIDIA reported one of its first losses in a long time. The main cause for NVIDIA's loss was a one-time charge the firm was forced to take after some of its notebook GPUs were found to be failing at higher than normal rates in some notebook systems.

The one-time charge amounted to about $200 million and was to cover costs associated with repair or replacement of affected notebook computers. NVIDIA hoped that the negative quarter and one-time charge would be as bad as things got for it, but things are really just starting to become interesting.

What I'd like to know Ron is why institutions like Lehman Bros are going down the pan?

 

It seems America has become too dependant on these type of firms, eg Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae.

In terms of the Nvidia lawsuits - they have messed up on the mobile GPU's, but everyone knows that it can happen and they are paying $200 per person so that they can ship the laptop back to whom they bought it and get a new card and then have it sent back - what more do people want.

As for the finance sector going down the pan - these companies rely on people borrowing money etc and because of the 'credit crunch' no one is and they are sinking FAST, closer to home AIG is the next one and leaves a certain Manchester football team without a sponsor :eek:
