I need a new motherboard

Recommended Posts

My motherboard etherport was recently fried by lightning. Fortunately, the

whole computer was protected except for the motherboard and the lightning

fried the ethernet port. Of course my housemate Monty's computer was running

and 100% fine and he did not even have a battery back up like me. My

housemates Brett and Mark were not at home in Albuquerque, NM at the time.

My fried motherboard is an ASUS PS800D-E Deluxe - UAYD and was made in

Taiwan. The serial number is 42MGON282. Please advise as far as a

replacement board of the same type that will fit in my system and have all

the features of this motherboard and more. In addition, it must be

compatible with 98 Second Edition. Thanks in advance for your help and do

not mind me if I am not posting for a few days since I will be going on

vacation in Colorado. Bye all! <Have a nice day! as I always say :->

Why not just buy and install an Ethernet card?

Very cheap.

I could but I need this baby (system) working at full capacity for security

reasons. Thanks Buffalo. I think 98 guy suggested a cool motherboard a

while back and hopefully he will post. In this case the economics are not a

factor.

Go to "Newegg.com". Search their MBs. and find the one that is most

compatible to your's. Even if you don't buy from them you can get the name of

the one you need.

Sometimes when you switch motherboards, you have to reinstall your OS.

Be sure to read up on that before you make the upgrade.

For under $20, you can get a PCI ethernet card.

Yeah, newegg.com was where I bought my current computer gear and I was happy

with their service. Thanks poatt.

Re: I need a new motherboard

Thanks, I will take that into account. I already have another ethernet card

as a backup that works but I need a new mb for security reasons and in case

this board was damaged in other ways. Just trust me, Buffalo but thanks for

trying to save me money.

Thanks for the reply.

I kind of figured that you were worried about other damage to you present

MB, but I just wanted to make sure you knew that there could be problems

with switchhing to another MB, usually due to the chipset.

Hope all works out well.

Okay, here are the specs. from the old motherboard

http://www.ocworkbench.com/2003/asus/p4s800d-e/p4s800d-e-1.htm

(anyone can click above link and author has tested it for safeness but makes

no guarantees the link will bring the person clicking it to the same safe

site it brought the op)
