Guest Mike M Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 I've noticed this behavior since the NT4 days but never thought to figure out why this occurs....I'm just tired of dealing with it. :) When changing NTFS permissions over the network (not on the file server itself) once the Apply or OK button is pressed, it takes several minutes for the permissions window to finally disappear. This behavior is not exhibited when I'm on the server console, or RDP'd into the server, and changing the same set of permissions from there. Any clues? TIA, Mike

Paulson Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 RE: When applying permissions, changes take a lonnnnnnnnnng time Yes, check your Network ... bottlenecks... viral activity... also it sounds like a GUID issue might be in place... when you change permissions do you get UI-9908379473964 (numbers in GUID) taking its time in the Permissions tab... well if so you have a a Domain Controller communication problem.. make sure your DNS servers are working properly, and see that replication and FSMO roles are set right. Corruption can happend if you deply Exchange wrong. Also, how long is your Domain login time? Are your nslookups functioning properly? " We've seen sporadic blue-screens of nothing...where the end-user hits ctrl-alt-del to login then the computer just sits there for hours on end. We see this very infrequently, but we do see it.
