For example, let's say that you want to buy some widgets from the WidgetsRUs web site. When you place an order, the site requires you to give an E-mail address. Instead of giving them your main address, you can create a disposable address, for use only by them. After you receive the order, you might not want to get more E-mail from WidgetsRUs, or, worse, they might sell your address to someone who starts sending you spam. In either case, you can cancel the disposable address that you created for them, and you won't receive any more messages sent to that address. I use the AddressGuard disposable E-mail address service that's included in Yahoo! Mail Plus. Other services include Spamex, Emailias, and ZoEmail. Guest Heather Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Re: Email Address setting one up.... Hi my crazy Aussie poster!! I have 3 that I use for various things. GMail is for genealogy, naturally. I have OE set up so it gets those posts. Their spam defence is good. I use Yahoo for anything and everything that I sign up for. Spam defence is good on that too. I also have a really anonymous Hotmail Account that I rarely use. Used to keep Microsoft Bulletins, etc. on that. My ISP (Rogers) has joined up with Yahoo and they also have disposable addresses as Steve Winograd explains. Those are a damn good idea, but haven't used them as of yet. Must go into Rogers and see what else they have to offer. Photos will now be on Flickr. Looking for something to make my own webpage cuz I am now designing jewellery and want to send a picture to Joanie, grin. Just as a point of interest, when I went back to Rogers (after 4 months of crappy Bell service), I asked for my old address back. The tech and I were amazed to see the spam start rolling in before we finished setting it all up. Those bots don't care if their spam bounced for 4 months obviously. Just a thought if you are getting a lot of it. I see you are from Australia. Steve Winograd and Heather discuss Yahoo! Maill accounts, including their "AddressGuard" feature. Like Heather, I have a Yahoo! co-branded ISP account (at&t Yahoo! HSI). I also have a free Yahoo! 7 Mail account ('yahoo.com.au'). For a subscription to "Yahoo! Delivers", you get SMTP/POP3 access with Yahoo! Mail in Australia; and "AddressGuard", as well. Just for this post I have created one. I will probably only keep it for a few days; that is usually how long it takes a virus, or spammer to glom onto an NNTP-Posting email address on the MSNews servers. -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys.

Hi there, Don't you have the photo's on your machine ? if so couldn't you just send me one in an email. Oh how so very true! I'm one of five directors of the small company that owns the freehold of the development where I live. Each leaseholder has one share in the company and ownership of the share is tied to ownership of the lease so in a way it might be considered a sort of cooperative. I've just reviewed my activities for the last 12 months (our AGM is close) and found I have sent or received some 416 e-mails relating to company business, had innumerable meetings with contractors, our managing agents, our part-time caretaker, the police (we have a fairly good CCTV system which has caught a few "bad 'uns) and spent hours finalising and correcting the draft accounts provided by our agents, providing relevant cctv footage, etc, etc. The others? All very supportive at a distance and have managed a couple of meetings and a few beers. Oh yes, they all work and apparently I don't. > Cynical - Moi? Moi aussi. -- Mike

How true, my Cynical Cumbrian......but sometimes I wonder how I did all I did and worked as well. Real estate took 14 hours out of my day. But I will admit to being a tad bored (as is Ron) and that is why I took up this crazy business at my age. I didn't know I had a talent for it and just thought I would try it. Bingo.....hooked on gems!! However, there ain't no bloody way anyone will get jewellery for now't from this old lady. But I am too much of a softy, I will admit. I did sell my first piece on the way back from Portugal. Only 35 people on the plane and the stewardesses wanted to see what I had with me when I mentioned making jewellery. It was poor Elayne's birthday present and she had only worn it once.......bam, gone!! Mind you, I told Elayne it was her choice and she wisely said in a demure tone, "stop dithering and sell the damn thing and make me another one, twit". (VBG) I have.....she just doesn't have it yet. If not, I can just use my generic > Yahoo Canada one, which is the Yahoo account I was referring to, not my > ISP/Yahoo one. If you read that carefully, it DOES make sense, lol. The Yahoo! Photos changes were much discussed in the AT&T support groups; and my understanding, from the complaints, was that use of Flickr would incur a $29 annual fee. When one can run with either Google Picasa, or HP Snapfish, without the fees, there is no need for a fee-based service. -- Norman ~Shine, bright morning light, ~now in the air the spring is coming. ~Sweet, blowing wind, ~singing down the hills and valleys.
Guest Joan Archer Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Re: Email Address setting one up.... Hi Mike, I do use OEQuoteFix and looking back at the post I used those smileys but as the text at the side of the particular line, like I normally do. I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the sending, I did 3 posts that was the first and the others did show so I went into the sent folder copied the post and sent it again and it showed up that time but with the smileys showing as attachments. I don't need anymore problems I've just had to sort out my Tesco shopping site giving me grieve <g> Joan Mike M wrote: > Do you use OEQuoteFix? Guest Mike M Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Re: Email Address setting one up.... Joan, The headers for that post look no different from others you have posted and I think the problem might just have been OEQuoteFix having an off day. Perhaps because it was wondering why its author (not you) hasn't updated it recently! <vbg> Tesco's? I hope you remember to send Shane some sugared doughnuts or whatever it was he used to get himself. -- Mike Joan Archer <archer_joan@NOSPAM.com> wrote: > Hi Mike, I do use OEQuoteFix and looking back at the post I used those > smileys but as the text at the side of the particular line, like I > normally do. > I'm wondering if it had anything to do with the sending, I did 3 posts > that was the first and the others did show so I went into the sent > folder copied the post and sent it again and it showed up that time > but with the smileys showing as attachments. > > I don't need anymore problems I've just had to sort out my Tesco > shopping site giving me grieve <g>
Guest Joan Archer Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Re: Email Address setting one up.... <lol> I know it's been a long time since anything different was done to the program perhaps he's not going to bother with it anymore. As for sending Shane any doughnuts, that was one of the problems with Tesco I couldn't add to my list, each time I tried it told me I hadn't altered the order and the original order would be delivered <g> I gave up that one but then it wouldn't take my order this week everytime I clicked on checkout it went to a page saying I didn't need to do that and on going back my basket was empty. I don't know whether the August updates had anything to do with the problems as it was after patch Tuesday that I started having trouble, I've sorted it and it's working now but not sure what caused it in the first place, another of those gremlins <g> Joan Mike M wrote: > Joan, > > The headers for that post look no different from others you have > posted and I think the problem might just have been OEQuoteFix having > an off day. Guest Heather Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Re: Email Address setting one up.... It happened because you called me a *bitch*!!! The MS server knows I am NOT a bitch......LOL!! And I was out gadding about today in 100 degree muggy weather and am ready to scream!! We drove for 2 hours to Port Dover for a pickerel lunch in the Jag which does NOT have air conditioning and I was not a happy camper. Mind you, the fish was good, but Mr. *Won't Ask for Directions* got lost and it probably took us 3 hot, sweaty hours to drive home. What is it with men that they refuse to ask where the hell they are (or aren't)????
