Dalo Harkin Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 After two years in development, VLC, the popular open-source player has just moved from the 0.8.x versions to version 0.9.2. The newly updated software remains small and lightweight while bringing a new interface for Windows and Linux systems as well as new inputs, more codec support and new on the fly audio and video filters. In addition to playing just about anything you can throw at it, VLC can also transcode videos and songs from one format to another – sans watermarks or limitations whatsoever. Head over to our download section to grab your copy for Mac, Windows or linux systems. Goku Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Thanks for putting it up Dalo. Co-incidentally, I downloaded the program just 2 days ago and now they have updated it! I will have to download it again now. -- Goku Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Cheers Dave, pulled down and installed. :) Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 What do you guys use it for - I have never needed anything more than WMP and I also use Intervideo windvd for watching movies as the audio is far superior to WMP - just curious :) Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I had a problem a while back where WMP would not play certain files, I forget now but Seth put me on to VLC and I have not looked back. Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 The only files that I have seen that people need specific stuff for is MKV files - and that was because they were downloaded off the net (I told him that they were probably bad and he watched them on BBC iplayer or whatever it is) - muppet he was (looked like Gonzo, funnily enough :D) Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
RandyL Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Well you can't go by my experience. Until I got Vista I was using WMP7 which would not play some files of course and I didn't have a DVD drive. WMP11 works good but I use the Media Center for DVD. Of course having 5 speakers helps the sound. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Goku Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I use VLC as it can play a variety of video formats. Besides, its lightweight and simple. You can also configure it to play Audio and Playlist files, but I use Winamp for that. -- Goku Quote
