Guest John Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Hiya, Recently had to sort out a messed up file redirection/offline files setup on a Windows 2003 server. THis seems to have worked fine for the deskbound clients using this server. However, a member of staff with a laptop has only just logged on to the Servers local network and when he did, he reports that the Sycronisation came up with an error and his files in his my documents area have been deleted. He did not have any files in his my documents area on the server and this was the first time he logged into the server since I set the file redirection/offline GPO. ANy idea whats gone on and how I can get the files back??? Thanks JOhn

Yes there was but it hadn't been working for ages as it poited to a non-existent share. I set the Action to keep the files. Like I say it worked fine for the desktop users, just not this laptop user. I also setup a completely new area for the files on the server. THanks JOhn > > -- > Cordialement, > Mathieu CHATEAU > http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com > > > "John" <John@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:9A55B332-247F-480F-B369-A958F3CBFD20@microsoft.com... > > Hiya, > > > > Recently had to sort out a messed up file redirection/offline files setup > > on > > a Windows 2003 server. Guest Mathieu CHATEAU Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Re: Client files deleted on synchronisation to server Maybe desktop user never went offline while he was. He may have been working offline since the beginning without being aware of this Now, you may use a restore tool to scan the laptop hard drive for deleted offline items. -- Cordialement, Mathieu CHATEAU http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com "John" <John@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:314A98D9-D2AE-4DEF-B16B-A9EF5CF96037@microsoft.com... > Hi Mathieu > > >> Was there any gpo redirecting its folder before you cleaned it up ? >> when setting a redirection gpo, you set the action when the gpo is >> removed >> (keep files in place...) > > Yes there was but it hadn't been working for ages as it poited to a > non-existent share. > > I set the Action to keep the files. Ideally, get something you can download/run from a CD or USB memory stick - nothing installed to the hard drive. Ontrack.com is another option (more likely to work, but more $). I would immediately disable offline files. I hate it and have seen more problems like this than I've had hot meals. Well, I exaggerate slightly. I just won't touch that stuff anymore. For laptop users, check out http://www.centered.com and SecondCopy - or have them access the network via remote desktop/terminal services while away. The more places you try to sync, the more stuff is likely to break. > > "John" <John@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:69F349D2-FA78-4133-9454-1A9334A7874A@microsoft.com... >> Hi Mathieu, >> >>> Maybe desktop user never went offline while he was. >>> He may have been working offline since the beginning without being >>> aware of >>> this >>> >>> Now, you may use a restore tool to scan the laptop hard drive for >>> deleted offline items. >> >> Oh, I take it from your answer that the files have gone... >> >> Recommend any decent restore tool??? >> >> Cheers >> John
