Guest MJK050 Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 I recently purchased a used PC. I reconfigured Outlook Express for my use but I must've screwed it up. When I double click on Express, it comes up with an error: "Cannot delete ntuser.dat: It is being used by another person or program". I am the only user. Express works fine after the OK is pressed to acknowledge the error, however some advanced functions don't work, like the ability to read messages archived from my old PC.
Guest JS Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Re: ntuser.dat error - Outlook Express startup Within the Outlook Express toolbar choose: File/Identities/Manage Identities There should be an identity named: 'Main Identity' Select 'Main Identity' as the identity to use when starting a program. If I bought a used computer, the first thing I would do with it would be to reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems, possibility of kiddie porn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do either. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup
