which graphics card?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and need some help. I have just bought a new computer after being blown up by lightning down the telephone cable. I have purchased the following:

 

amd Phenom 9850 quad core processor 2.50 ghz

8gb ram

asus m2a-vm mobo with ati radeon express 1250 graphics on board

64 bit vista premium

500 gb disk

22" hg216d monitor

 

I need to buy a graphics card which goes well with this set up. I do not play many games but do lots of surfing,photos and dvd's. I want quality viewing as i'm now 50 and the eyes are bad but without over specifation, what do you recommend? All help greatly appreciated.

Can I ask if you have any issue's with the onboard graphics that you have?

 

Was this a hand-made system or shop bought?

hi,

I bought new off of ebay (palicomp), I'm getting black lines on my screen occasionally and thought that a dedicated graphics card would make this better and I would like the best quality for a reasonable price.

This sounds like a faulty graphics problem Dave or a monitor issue, do you have a guarantee on this equipment as it doesn't sound to be functioning properly?

If your after a relatively cheap graphics card which will work with the system above, have a look at MSI 256MB PCI-E card below. It has some good reviews and doesn't break the bank at £22.

I am guessing that you have 8GB of RAM as you do encoding/decoding etc on DVD's.

you need a powerful card and I would opt for something like a Nvidia 260GTX (but these are £210)

give me a budget and I will find you a card for the money
