Hi all , I have a sony vaio which has a user password but the computer has died. I have taken the harddrive out and fitted it into a caddy and plugged it into another computers usb socket but although it will open the hard drive I cannot access all the files on it, i.e the important ones that I need. Any thoughts?:(

Since XP Pro can encrypt files I hope you didn't do that. However if you didn't do that then you probably just need to take ownership of the files and folders so you can access them.

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500

Sorry been out. The files are word and excel files and photos etc. and are contained in the 'my documents' folder that I cant get to, probably because I had it password protected on the laptop

Did you read Randy's post and if you did what was the outcome?

Did you use some kind of folder locking software at any time?
