Hi. I hope someone can help me. Every time I down load a game off the

Internet, and go to play it, I get this message: The (game) RWG file is

linked to missing export SHELL 32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathA. I haven't a clue.

Someone please help

You can tell that this name is garbed, viz. connects together

a filename and a file function. So your Win98SE OS may

have been damaged.

More information would be needed before this NG can help.

What software is supposed to play RWG data files and

do your downloads play or not?

The message seems basic enough, so it MAY be that your

shell32.dll is not outdated (see below) but damaged, but if that

was the case, you would be having many other problems. Also,

FWIW, I have NEVER run across a "damaged" system file.

The SHELL32.DLL grew considerably with every new release of

Windows, and unfortunately, many programs use calls to that DLL

for their proper functioning. The games you are DL'g may simply

need a newer version of Windows. I have run across this problem

with many newer programs (mostly those to do with the Internet),

but since older is usually better and much faster, no problem.

Then again, I'm not a gamer.

If you are a serious gamer, get a newer XP/Vista machine with a

snazzy video card, don't connect it to the net and use IT for

gaming only (and other processor/graphics-intensive tasks).

The software you are using is not designed for Windows 9x. For these

versions of Windows the function SHGetFolderPathA should be referenced as

belonging to SHFOLDER.DLL, not SHELL32.DLL.

See, for instance:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms647764.aspx

under Remarks.
