When you say your computer is set up to automatically download, do you mean "download Windows updates", or something else? It would help too if you could say exactly what file this is that seems to be causing the problem, and what you mean by "I have done a recovery" -- System Restore? Return to factory settings? -- Nightowl

The computer is ste up for automatic updates from Microsoft. It does indicate to me that there are some downloads reading to be downloaded, when I download them I then get asked to install, this is all OK. The file taht is causing me a problem is Microsoft GDI + Detection Tool (KB 873374),when tis file is downloaded & installed ,& the machine is restarted here the problem occurs. It starts to go into start mode, shows the start up window then shuts down again & again & again--this just keeps goinig & going,it never stops. I cannot start the computer even in safe mode to be able to "try" & rectify teh fault.I have to do a Recovery (F8). If I do not install this file everything is all ok & perfect. Question:-- Do I really need this file ?? I would really welcome some advice & help on this problem Again-- Thank you for your reply Ted
