Guest Mathieu CHATEAU Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Re: Software Installation Restriction Hello, if they are standard user, they can't install software through a setup. But they can still copy .exe & co and launch them. Some software are not requiring HKLM entries. You may block executable, by limiting the name of .exe allowed to be launched through software restriction -- Cordialement, Mathieu CHATEAU http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com "SBN via WinServerKB.com" <u32166@uwe> wrote in message news:77e5c6f2e4950@uwe... > Hey guys does windows 2003 has the capability to prohibit users from > installing softwares. > > -- > Message posted via WinServerKB.com > http://www.winserverkb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/windows-server/200709/1 >

Hey CHATEAU tnx for replying....:) where can i find this software restriction. ..and can this softwares resctriction be able to restrict administrators as well. in our office i have this problem... a software that was installed requires a user to be a member of admin, domain admin, and administrators group, which also gives users the full rights to install softwares thats i post this thread... can you give your insights to my problem.:) -- Message posted via WinServerKB.com http://www.winserverkb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/windows-server/200709/1
Guest Mathieu CHATEAU Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Re: Software Installation Restriction Domain admins rights are only necessary for applications that registers in the AD. For all others, only local admin rights are needed. You can set more restrictive GPO, but another domain admin can unset these GPO. Technical is not the key to work better between admins -- Cordialement, Mathieu CHATEAU http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com "SBN via WinServerKB.com" <u32166@uwe> wrote in message news:77fe70cb0bf9c@uwe... > Mathieu CHATEAU wrote: >>Hello, >> >>if they are standard user, they can't install software through a setup. >>But they can still copy .exe & co and launch them.
