Guest rAgAv Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hello, I have just reinstalled xp pro and I haven't installed the service pack. I installed all the softwares and drivers without even installing the service pack. What happens if I don't install the service pack? Is it a must for the computer to function properly? Regards. -- rAgAv

Service Packs resolve a number of issues (security and otherwise) that became apparent only after the initial version was released.
Guest Curt Christianson Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Re: XP Service pack In addition to Pegasus' excellent advice, (my opinion here), if this computer will be used on the Internet, the Service Packs and additional updates available at the Windows Update site *are* a must if you want to stay "safe". An un-patched machine has far too many vulnerabilities. A good read before installing SP2, though somewhat lengthy, will help make the upgrade process smoother, and can be found here: WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 FAQs & BEST PRACTICES http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/sp2faq.htm -- HTH, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org/Index.htm "rAgAv" <ragav.payne@googlemail.com> wrote in message news:1189240658.307655.324680@g4g2000hsf.googlegroups.com... | Hello, | | I have just reinstalled xp pro and I haven't installed the service | pack. But it's NOT out, and is not due until at least the first half of 2008.....

"The" service pack? There have been two service packs so far, and the third is expected early next year. SP2 is the latest. > I installed all the softwares and drivers without even > installing the service pack. Much of what's in it is security-related, and you are at increased risk without it. Why would you even consider not installing it? As a general rule, everyone should always install all critical updates and service packs as they are released. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup
