Guest Jethro Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I have a friend with a working system with WXP PRO OEM. She sent for and received a SP2 disk from MS. She can't seem to apply the update to SP2. After doing it, when she restarts machine, it hangs trying to display her desktop - forcing her to restore back to SP1 version. Makes me wonder.....It should be legit to do such an upgrade to an OEM version shouldn't it? If not, how can she do this? If so, what might her problem be? Thanks Jethro

Make sure that your anti virus' auto scan is disabled as well as things like Spybot and Spywareblaster. Do a clean up (Crap Cleaner is excellent for this, http://www.ccleaner.com), chkdsk and defrag. -- Alias To email me, remove shoes

Guest Curt Christianson Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Re: Need help applying SP2 to OEM XP SP1 Hi Jethro, Alias has already given you the details for before you load SP2. The whole idea behind that is you want as "bare-boned" of your system as possible when you are modifying the OS at such a basic level. To answer your other question, yes, what you are doing is not only legit, but it's going to keep your friend safer as well as others on the 'net. -- HTH, Curt Windows Support Center http://www.aumha.org Practically Nerded,... http://dundats.mvps.org/Index.htm "Jethro" <Wilson@somewhere.org> wrote in message news:12a5e3h5f83k44kjio7u71d9dihnu56mhb@4ax.com... |I have a friend with a working system with WXP PRO OEM. | She sent for and received a SP2 disk from MS. | She can't seem to apply the update to SP2. | After doing it, when she restarts machine, it hangs trying to display | her desktop - forcing her to restore back to SP1 version. | | Makes me wonder.....It should be legit to do such an upgrade to an OEM | version shouldn't it?
