Guest Jeff Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 hey I have 2 computers in my home network, one computer with winXPpro (sp2) and another with win2k3. I haven't configured lmhosts because I thought that is for network with many computers, so having lmhosts is an overkill... am I wrong, then please correct me... WINS is not installed on the win2k3 computer win2k3 computer is configured as domain controller, I've run dcpromo.exe. This wizard created a DNS which don't have any Reverse Lookup Zone.... The computers can ping each other using IP address, but they cannot ping using netbios name.. what am I missing here? Jeff

Guest Jeff Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Re: cannot ping using netbios name thanks, do I also need to create an lmhosts file on the winXP computer ??? I've installed WINS on the win2k3 computer, but I cannot ping using names yet... I've just installed WINS, I haven't done any configurations etc of WINS.. I've rebooted my computers several times but they cannot ping using names... Both computers have dynamic IP address (DHCP), but they have had the same IP address for years.... Any suggestions?
