If this is the first time you've seen tis stop error screen, restart your

computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If

this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for

any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or

software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you

need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your

comnputer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options and then select Safe

Mode.

I bought this computer two years ago. This is the first time I have received

this message. I restarted the computer and all *seems* okay now.

All installed programs are working as they should. Yes, I have recently

installed Norton Internet Security 2007, but I think that is conflicting with

Spyware Doctor 5, so have shutdown Spyware Doctor and things have picked up

since then. I went into NIS to view the history and there doesn't seem to be

anything untoward noted there. Is there something else I should check/do,

please?

PS: At the time this happened, something (I don't know what) was

downloading. There was the usual downloading icon in the system tray; I

hovered over it and it said downloading 40%, and it was almost only a second

or two after that that I got the above-noted message.

Hi Newbie Coder,

Tks your reply. The second article, kb929338, sounded most appropriate, so

downloaded it. I'm not sure it's actually been installed, so checked the

kb929338.log. This is what it says:

Sorry to do this to you. I'm a bit confused actually. I went into Control

Panel, it is listed there but dated 16mar07! So, today, I decided to search

for nt*.exe files to see if they had been installed. I *did* get some, but

they are quite old! I'd list them here, except I don't know how to save the

search results details list that shows you everything -- file name, folder,

size, application, date modified. When I do a Ctrl+A, it just copies the

file name.

Re: Computer shutdown message, WinXPHomeSP2

Thanks newbie coder. Today have reinstalled kb929338, and it has installed

successfully. Again, did a nt*.exe search, and the files came up, but this

time dated 28feb07, plus quite a few older ones as well! Have left them on

the system. Ah, such mysteries. Hopefully, everything is okay now.
