PC has started losing video output followed by a freeze ~60 seconds later

This started happening on 8/17, and seems to happen whenever I open a game (but strangely, not when using 3D editing software like Blender. I was also able to run Fallout New Vegas for several hours until the software itself crashed, but New Vegas is already known for doing that. It's also not very graphically intensive.) I suspect it might have something to do with a failed update which occurred on the 15th.
