Micky Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I'm having a problem with IE7. I'm using Windows XP Media Centre Edition. Just installed Windows Service pack 3 and now when I open the browser I get the page that says 'Windows cannot display this webpage' etc. I'm using an Orange Livebox hardwired to the PC, so rang Orange for tech support thinking it was maybe a connection problem with the modem at first, but they said it was working fine as I could actually get onto a web page by typing in its IP address (the one with the numbers separated with dots). They tested it with the IP addresses for the Orange and Google homepages and it works. I use Outlook Express for my email, but this doesn't work and just comes up with an error after I've put my password in (whick I've double checked to make sure its been typed in correctly) Hope you can help Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hello Mickey Welcome to FPCH Have a read of this from the boys at MS regarding re-setting IE. How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES) Quote
RandyL Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 What is the OE error Micky? OE is bundled with IE. Did you have IE7 before SP3? You may have to uninstall SP3. Then uninstall IE7. Then reinstall SP3. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Micky Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Yes had IE7 before SP3, it worked fine for months. Can't remember what the OE error was exactly, something about 'can't find account', get a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it in the corner. I can still get at my email though, signing in through the Orange homepage using my computer at work. (I'm using my office computer now for this). Thanks Quote
RandyL Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Since it used to work do what Wolfey said. Resetting IE will not only set the defaults but also remove any dubious IE add-ons. After that I would say you have a malware issue if the IE reset doesn't work. Either way do what Wolfey said first. Quote We are all members helping other members. Tony D Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Sounds like your DNS setting is wrong. What is your DNS setting? You can find this by going to the Start menu and type COMMAND in the box. Then Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as an administrator. At the C:\> prompt type in IPCONFIG /ALL. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Micky Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Just removed SP3 and both IE7 and OE are working, without doing anything else. If I install SP3 again I presume they will not work again, so, do I need SP3? Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 I would Micky, MS don't make it for nothing. Quote
