avextraxjp Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hello I connect to the internet through an open WiFi connection. 1. I've installed the latest version of OpenVPN on Vista. I've have not configured it in anyway and it just sits at my taskbar. I've set openVPN as run with administrator's rights. How can I know that the program is working? 2. When installing openVPN, a "would you like to install this device software?" dialog box appears with the following: Name: TAP_WIn32 Provider V9 Network Adapters Publisher: OpenVPN, Inc. Should I install this device? 3. I downloaded the openvpn from its official website. Is it safe to assume the program installer has not been tampered with? Thank you very much. Quote
Goku Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Hello Ave. I don't know much about Networking so bear with me till the other experts get online. 1. The best way to see if the program is working or not, in the background, is to look it up in the taskbar. If the icon for the program is present there, it is most probably doing its job. If not, then you might need to reconfigure it. Here are some How To's from the official site that might guide you. 2. The second prompt that comes up is probably about a driver that needs to be installed in order to operate OpenVPN smoothly. It is safe to install it unless your AntiVirus or AntiSpyware identifies it as a rogue. 3. If you downloaded the program for the official site, then it is likely to be clean. Again, safely install the software unless your security programs refrain you from doing so. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku Quote
avextraxjp Posted September 28, 2008 Author Posted September 28, 2008 Thanks, Goku It's appears to be running on Task Monitor but I'm not sure if it's working as I have configured nothing. I'm read the official site previously but that doesn't help Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Again I must ask as with Wireshark what are you thinking of using this software for. Have you any experience of networking at all? Quote
avextraxjp Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 I know nothing about networking, I had been mistaken as to the purposes wireshark serves could you help me with openvpn now Thank You Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I'm really confused here Avex because I can't understand why someone that has no networking experience whatsoever would want to use a program that is intended to be used by people with extensive networking knowledge. Please don't think I'm trying to be unhelpful here but what would you want to use that program for? Quote
