Guest mhowell Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Please explain to me why I would ever want to use the /3gb switch since it takes 1 gb of memory away from the operating system.
Guest Dave Patrick Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Re: /3g switch While it takes away from the OS it frees it for application use. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Mathieu CHATEAU Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Re: /3g switch Helo, The application must at least have the /3G flag in the header of it's executable image to use it. So not all application are able to use it -- Cordialement, Mathieu CHATEAU http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com "mhowell" <mhowell@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B2AAADE6-DAD7-4A38-BC6F-1E4663847D8F@microsoft.com... > Please explain to me why I would ever want to use the /3gb switch since it > takes 1 gb of memory away from the operating system.
Guest mhowell Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Re: /3g switch Hello, I guess I should have stated that better. Why would you want to take away memory from the kernel? Is it only to fill the application requirements? This can't be good to use that often. Guest Dave Patrick Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 Re: /3g switch Yes, that's correct. Depending on what you've configured, the OS may not need it. For instance a member server running SQL Server. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup.
