usb drive works on one computer and not another

interesting (weird?) problem - USB driver (16TB): operates as expected on computer 1 but read-only on computer 2. Both computers Windows 11. Computer 2: - attempted write yields drive error and drive 'disappears'. USB disconnected and reconnected restores drive. - computer 2 can format drive. - diskmgmt says drive is healthy. - diskpart can see volume and partition. - explorer can see and view files. - crystaldiskinfo does not see the drive.
