After my original prob of the computer crashing while copying files, I have a new problem -- After ejecting a music CD, the PC freezes and And the mouse and kybd won't do anything. I have a Dell Windows XP SP3 with 2 Gb RAM (used to have 4 Gb, was told to take it out), 1 Gb Video RAM, 2.8 CPU, DVD player, and brand new CD Burner. Any Ideas anyone?

No, the old burner never had that prob. hate to switch burners now, the new one along with the correct device driver seems to copy files fine, I'm not usinng Roxio anymore - Windows has it's own function of copying files. I'll switch drives 2morrow and see what happens.

P.S. Can't seem to find the old burner just yet, so it'l have to wait til 2morrow anyway

Well, all seems better with the original CD Burner, I played 2 music CD's, copied some files, performed a lot of operations, no freezing up. I could still like the reason why the PC would freeze after ejecting. I put good money into the new drive and would want to use that. Thanks,

That's weird.

Nothing much happens to an operating system when you eject a cd. Seems like the burner has an electrical fault.

As a last ditch attempt to the drive you could flash the firmware - I have seen BSOD when installing a CD/DVD that the drive didnt have the correct firmware for.

Both the new CD Burner, and the original one, after ejecting a CD, will lock up the computer, nothing, kybd and mouse don't work, 3-fingered salute won;t work...... What could possibly be the problem? I would hate to have to reformat the HD, I would lose a lot of data, even tho I have an external 250 Gb HD. :(

You said in post 4 that the original burner was fine.

PC still freezes after ejecting CD

I still have the problem of the PC freezing up after ejecting a music CD, I even waited several minutes for the CD to stop spinning but nothing seems to work, any more ideas I could try?

What software are you now using to burn the CD's with.

Nero?

you have to be extremely specific in terms of the version number that you use with Nero as they are known for crashing systems if you have the wrong version number.

Let us know what you are now using and we will go from there.

(Lost the orig, reply) I'm using Nero Version 8, but I still haven't had a chance to try it out.

So what are you using then for the burning?

honestly I cannot stress how 'fussy' NERO can be on some systems - go to the NERO homepage and download their removal tool and make sure that ALL traces of previous versions are gone and then install NERO 8 and see how you get on
