Dear Microsoft Expert:

I'm getting these 3 system errors every couple of minutes (the time

variable) but the messages in the System-Event Viewr are the same...

Source: SideBySide

Event ID:32

Description:

Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC could not be found and Last Error was

The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Source: SideBySide

Event ID:59

Description:

Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.MFC could not be found and Last Error was

The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

Source: SideBySide

Event ID:59

Description:

Generate Activation Context failed for

C:\WINDOWS\system32\GizmoPluginCPL.cpl. Reference error message: The

operation completed successfully.

Can you please advise me what can I do to correct this problem?...

Regards,

Roger Meyers

It's a little tough to tell from here because there could be quite a few

different possibilities, including viruses. It could also be as benign as

part of spybot search and destroy if you use it.

I'd recommend a web search and see what comes up that might apply to you.

The first several results on a search for sidebyside all sound

similar to yours. Here's the virus end of things if you want to check

that out:

Re: SideBySide System Error

Thanks Poprivet for the quick-reply... I failed to provide a lot of attempts

to solve this issue, including Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and F-Secure's online

virus scanner... I even removed the GizmoPlugin key that appeared in the

registry, and web-searched and read the posts on severals blogs and forums

but I'm still having the same problem...

(I'm Running Windows XP Pro 2002,sp2, v. 2096)

RE: SideBySide System Error

Sites say that :

(a) Microsoft.VC80.MFC comes with Visual studio 2005

(b) That it can be toggled off using Spybot S&D

© That it could be malware

This explains what SideBySide is/does-

http://www.mazecomputer.com/sxs/help/whatis.htm

This describes MFC-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Foundation_Classes

This may help if you are doing something technical-

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=164465&SiteID=1

Heavy reading, includes this-

<quote>For Microsoft.VC80.MFC after copying the manifest please open it up

in notepad and change the version to 8.0.50608.0

Otherwise, you may want to uninstall the last thing you installed before

the error began showing, OR do a System Restore.

Re: SideBySide System Error

Hey Sharon... Thanks for youradvise.. unfortunately for me it didn't change

no stop the SideBySide issue I'm having...

Is there anything else I can try before re-installing or restoring XP?
