Does the Volume Shadow Copy Service rename the Shadow Copy Index File each time it runs?

I am troublshooting an issue with backups in conjunction with our backup provider. The Shadow Copy Index File located in the System Volume Information folder is being renamed each time their software runs a backup which uses the Volume Shadow Copy Service. The name is a number then the standard Shadow Copy Index File name in brackets. E.g. 26 {3808876b-c176-4e48-b7ae-04046e6cc752}. The number at the start of the name increases by 1 each time a backup runs. Their support has required me to reach out to Microsoft and find out if the Shadow Copy Index File automatically renames itself each time
