Folder list on Windows Explorer

Hi, all. I found the answer to this here in the past, but I can't

find it this time. Take pity!

I'm using XP Pro. I have a My Documents icon in the Quick Launch

bar.

When I click on it, it used to display the folders tree on the left

side, but now I have to click on the Folders button to display the

folders. I would like it to default that way.

It seems like, when I fixed it before, it was some registry setting,

but I can't remember which.

Anybody?

TIA

Hi Kevin,

Not sure about the reg setting, but I create explorer shortcuts instead.

Right click and drag "My Documents" on the Desktop to an empty area on

the Desktop, and select "Create Shortcuts here". Then right click on the

shortcut and select Properties. In the Target location, add,

"c:\windows\explorer.exe /e," in front of the current target path and

put a space between, like this:

c:\windows\explorer.exe /e, d:\data

(your path to Windows and after the /e,[space] may differ from the example)

Click OK and put the shortcut wherever you desire.

Now you will have the dual pane window you want. For additional

switches, see here:

Re: Folder list on Windows Explorer

Thanks, Terry. That does work.

What I'm wondering is, before when it worked, it opened the My

Documents folder that's listed between Desktop and My Computer.

Remember this is XP Pro. Now it's opening the My Documents buried

down in Documents and Settings. I don't understand what's causing

this. Not that's it's a really big deal, it's just irritating.

Well, that where your "My Documents" is located. As an alternate

method, you can hold down the Shift key and double click My Documents

and it will open up dual pane, but you have to click on it once before

dbl-clicking so as to put the focus on that icon rather than everything

on the Desktop. Same thing with My Computer.
