Why does my laptop crash (bluescreen) frequently?

My 5-year old HP laptop crashes frequently, and in the logs I see the following error info: "faulting module name biwinrt.dll" I have tried all the solutions suggested online (e.g. system scan, restore health, virus check, driver updates, clean boot), but nothing has changed. Furthermore, since yesterday my laptop has been slower in performing regular tasks. The major problematic change is that the sound quality of videos has decreased. It sounds like something is preventing the system from playing a video. Could this be a hardware issue or a consequence of clashing software? Has anyone exper
