Can someone tell me where I can locate the 'Window host files'. I recently

remove a virus called 'winaxx.exe.' but now when I try to run Norton's

liveupdate I am getting a error message from Norton Internet Security that

some of their files are in the Windows host files which needs to be removed.

I would like to delete them but I don't know where the 'Host files' are

located on the computer.

Re: Windows Host Files

You can delete the file named HOSTS (no extension; not LMHOSTS0 in this

folder: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

Re: Windows Host Files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

The default contents can be listed using Notepad and are as follows:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

#

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.

#

# For example:

#

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server

# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Re: Windows Host Files

Oh buddy, that is a tough one. Was ViewPoint and Wn9999.exe also a part of

this mess? If so, be sure to run SmitFraudFix use all options - especially

host files. Once done, run HiJackThis.
