Ken Ryder Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I have recently had cause to format my hard drive:( With my back up disk all seemed to go well but on examination of my 'C' & 'D' partitions I found that the 'C' was virtually full. I have been informed by my PC that I should free up space on that partition. I now find that many of the files etc in 'C' are also reproduced in the 'D' partition. My problem is which files/programs can I safely delete in order to free up space on 'C', or, do I simply delete the corresponding items in 'D'? I cannot understand as to why these items need to be reproduced in two partitions. I did make a start on the 'C' with the idea that if anthything went wrong then I could retrieve them from the waste bin but that soon became full. Help! Quote
RandyL Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Hi Ken; What exactly do you mean by backup disk? What is the size of the C and D partitions? What kind of files are these duplicates? What have you deleted from the C drive so far. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. opensource_archive Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 If you are prepared to reformat your HDD then use a partition manager (Built in one on Windows Install CD if you have one for example) and reinstall windows on a single partition. Or use a free opensource Partition Manager like Partition Magic or QTParted live CD (Google it) to reformat and repartition your HDD. Make sure you have Master/Recovery DVD's and backed up important files. Quote
