Windows Deployment Service - Error while uploading image to the WDS Server

Hi

I have installed WDS in our Windows 2003 server (SP2) and this server is a

member of our exiting Domain. WDS is installed on a Native mode.

We configured the server and things are quite fine, how ever I'm facing the

problem in the following situation.

1. I ran sysprep in the Win XP box

2. On restarting the PC, I pressed F12 and pointed the PC to WDS server

3. I selected the option Capture, to capture the image from the PC to WDS

server

4. In the option, I selected "upload the image to WDS Server"

5. Now the capture process is successfully completed in the local PC, now

as a next step this WIM image must be uploaded to WDS server.

6. In this stage I get the error as follows "Uploading Image to WDS server,

the system cannot find the file specified"

However, I checked and confirmed that server have enough space and I changed

the temp file to the volume which have huge free space. Inspite of this it

fails. Need your help in resolving this issue

Based on your error, I have performed further research but I cannot find

any direct resolution to address this issue so far. I saw this issue has

Thanks for the effort, Infact before posting this message I saw the earlier

discussion and I tried all the possible things which is discussed and

noticed It doesn't solves my problem.

I'm unable to understand why this is happening, I enabled the trace for the

same but I'm unable to get anything from that log. Also note I deployed

the same across 25 different site/locations and I noticed this error appears

for few locations.

I'm getting the same thing...however I'm trying to upload a Server

2003 image to WDS from a PowerEdge 2950 Dell Server. I've tried

looking at the forum link above before posting this and am stuck. I've

uploaded other images just fine using different Dell hardware. I

wonder if my network settings are not setup properly in Capture mode.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Windows Deployment Service - Error while uploading image to the WDS Server

Hi Ken

Thanks for all the effort, and sorry for late reply.

We seriously worked on this issue and we could find out the solution

ourselves.

We found the issue is due to the following

1. When we actually upload the image from the Client PC to the WDS server,

we gave IP Address of WDS server to connect. If we give the server name we

noticed the connection fails. Which shows name resolution is not happening,

may be due to DNS.

2. We tried to give a static DNS entry in the client PC, but while

uploading the image we still found the name resolution is not happening.

Later we understoon when the client PC is booting the DHCP server is not

providing the DNS IP for the client machine.

3. That triggers us, because we use Network access control (NAC) and we are

using DHCP enforcer.

4. We excluded the specific clients (i.e from the client where we upload

the image to wds server) MAC Address in the DHCP Enforcer. After doing this

I could connect to the WDS Server using name and not IP. Once the name

resolution is happened we noticed things are fine and could successfully

connect to the WDS server and the image upload is also successfull.

| We seriously worked on this issue and we could find out the solution

| ourselves.

| We found the issue is due to the following

|

| 1. When we actually upload the image from the Client PC to the WDS

server,

| we gave IP Address of WDS server to connect. If we give the server name

we

| noticed the connection fails. Which shows name resolution is not

happening,

| may be due to DNS.

|

| 2. We tried to give a static DNS entry in the client PC, but while

| uploading the image we still found the name resolution is not happening.

| Later we understoon when the client PC is booting the DHCP server is not

| providing the DNS IP for the client machine.

|

| 3. That triggers us, because we use Network access control (NAC) and we

are

| using DHCP enforcer.

|

| 4. We excluded the specific clients (i.e from the client where we upload

| the image to wds server) MAC Address in the DHCP Enforcer. After doing

this

| I could connect to the WDS Server using name and not IP. Once the name

| resolution is happened we noticed things are fine and could successfully

| connect to the WDS server and the image upload is also successfull.
