Guest Biglifter550 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Hi all, I have 2 questions. 1. Once i install a second domain controller and replicate all active directory information, can i rename itl I want to pull the old domain controller of the domain and install the new domain controler and rename it to the same as the decomissionened laptop.. 2. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Re: Domain Controler reaname Hello Biglifter550, You must figure out before, what services run with that account, also the software you mention and so on. Guest Mathieu CHATEAU Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 Re: Domain Controler reaname Hello, about the domain admin password, well it depends if you used it. You may check for: -Windows service started with it -scheduled tasks using it -backup software (if using it..) -proxy surf with it (antivirus software) (dumb) Since you have to check all, you would change them to another account. So you will identify them better. I am nearly sure you will also see that they don't need such power to run (if using this account). While you are at work on it, it's a best practice to rename and desactivate the famour admin account. Because it cannot be locked out, it's the first account hacker try to break. -- Cordialement, Mathieu CHATEAU http://lordoftheping.blogspot.com "Biglifter550" <Biglifter550@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B9FEE8F9-EEC3-4EA4-A044-BEA57BBBBBF7@microsoft.com... > Hi Meinolf, > > Thanks for the help.
