I'm trying to download files through Firefox on to my Vista PC but it only downloads as a binary file and doesn't open when i try.

Can anybody give suggestions as to what i should do or what needs doing?

Thanks.

Hi Adam

Welcome to FPCH

Do you have the latest version of Firefox which is 3.0.3?

What particular file are you trying to download?

Yeah, i believe so. I also am trying to download AVG from download.com but it seems that it wont download as a .exe for any files from them. I have also tried elsewhere and on IE7.

I have noticed that FF now seems to call .exe downloadable files as Binary now.

I save them to my downloads folder and they run without problem.

I suggest you uninstall and reinstall FF and see what happens then get back to us if you still have issues.

Ok, thanks. I'll try saving them to that folder and if that fails, re-installing.

Thanks for the help, i'm coming back to this site if i need help again. Fantastic response time :)

It seems to be installing on the machine in general.

It wont re-install firefox, i get as far as having the file ready to be opened and it just doesn't.

I dont know what could be doing it as i just searched through files to look for any kind of spyware/viruses that may be doing it using Spybot but no luck there.

I cant see any immediate problem.

Has anybody had similar problems on their computer and how did you resolve it?

Thanks.

What kind, if any error messages are you getting and are you able to download anything?

I get as far through the download as i am about to execute the file and begin the actual installation on my PC, the file downloads through Firefox but then will not run on the PC.

I'm not sure at all why it does this but i'm still looking into it.

For example with Firefox - It gets to the point where i run or dont run the file. When i click run, it closes and no more happens.

Yep, have done and i am Admin user.

I am going to just format and re-install. I dont have much on anyways, it'll be quicker than searcing for a problem. Thanks anyways.

Hello and Welcome to FPCH Adaam. :)

Before you try to format, please try and see if you can download and execute Avira AntiVir or not. It is an open secret that AVG is a very heavily targeted AntiVirus and therefore many forms of Malware stop you from downloading it. Avira is less targeted and if you are able to execute it, then your computer is infected.

In that case, install Avira and update it. Next run a full system scan and see if there is an improvement or not. Hope that helps.
