Notebook sound has loud 'bursts' occasionally

Every so often, I will unpause a video or do anything else that causes the notebook loudspeakers to make a sound, only to hear that sound blasted at an extremely high volume for a split second, before it goes back to normal. I don't know what could be causing it. I can't test it because it happens so rarely, but it seemed to occur more often after a prolonged period of activity.
